Judges Announced
for Voice Competition | The judges for the Eastern Shore Choral Society's
fifth annual Edna Traccarella Voice Scholarship competition for high school students will be Phyllis Dye, Mary Katherine
Kilgore and Dee Pace. Dye
received her bachelor and master of music degrees in voice from Bucknell University and West Virginia University.
She has served on a college/university level as both a piano and voice faculty member. Her repertoire includes most
major oratorios and many operatic roles, and she performed as a soloist for many years at the Victoria, Texas, Bach Festival
and with symphony orchestras in the southeast. Dye has extensive experience as a vocal competition adjudicator,
including Metropolitan Opera district auditions. Kilgore received a bachelor of music degree in organ performance from Valdosta State University, followed
by voice, opera and choral conducting studies at Clayton College and State University and master of music studies
in choral conducting at the University of Alabama. Kilgore has performed as a soprano soloist, organist, pianist and
choral conductor. In addition, she teaches private lessons in both voice and piano. Kilgore is currently the
Director of Music at the Fairhope United Methodist Church. Pace studied voice while in high school with a voice teacher who so encouraged her that
she went on to receive a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from the University of West Florida.
She has performed as a soprano soloist in both church and community settings, including choral tour group performances in
Europe, has coached students for contest performances and has served as the choral director for both church productions
and community music theater productions. Pace is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Fairhope where she
serves as the Assistant to the Minister of Music. The competition, which is intended to nurture young vocal talent in Baldwin County, is open to high
school freshmen, sophomores and juniors who made application by February 15. The competition will be held
March 8. For more information,
call Dr. Jane Blaum at 232-1098. *********************
