Eastern Shore Choral Society ~
History
A former resident
of Washington, D.C., and the northern Virginia area,
Edna Traccarella and
her husband moved to Fairhope to retire. Although
she
found many artistic outlets on the Eastern Shore, she could not find
sufficient
opportunities to sing. In 1992, she founded the Eastern Shore
Choral Society and served as the organization’s
first president.
In 1996, the Eastern Shore Choral Society endowed a scholarship fund,
calling it the Edna Traccarella Fellowship Award Fund. In
that same year,
the first award was given to Spanish
Fort School. When Edna Traccarella
passed away in 1999, additional contributions were made to the Award
Fund in her memory and in recognition of her love of singing.
Historically,
the Eastern Shore Choral Society's contributions from the
Award Fund
have all been given to area schools’ music departments.
On March 8, 2008, the Eastern Shore Choral Society held its
Fifth
annual Edna Traccerella Scholarship Competition.
This is a countywide
voice competition for high school freshmen,
sophomores and juniors.
Scholarship monies awarded enable winners to pursue their vocal studies. This
scholarship competition is a dream of Edna’s that we are perpetuating.
Together with the help of your generosity,
we have been able to
make many generous monetary contributions to school music
programs on the Eastern Shore, as well as to expand our voice
scholarship program.
In recent years, we have been able to make the donations of almost
$5,000 to the Fairhope Center of the Arts from money earned
by
individual
choir member's hard work and fundraising efforts.
We are
a non-profit tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, and as such,
your donations are tax-deductible.
